Waterfalls

Logan Falls

Beautiful Logan Falls is located approximately 20 miles from Forest Ridge, and is a nice, “moderate” hike….approximately 2 miles.

Directions from Forest Ridge:

Turn left out of campground driveway.  Drive 2.1 miles on Loleta Road to the center of town.  Turn right onto Route 66.  Drive 5.6 miles and turn left onto Blue Jay Creek Road.  Drive 4.1 miles and turn left on Job Corp Road (this road is mostly dirt, and has lots of potholes, so drive carefully).  Go 5.2 miles on Job Corp Road, and then turn right on Forest Road 180.  Drive approximately 2.5 miles.  You should see a pull off on the right (there was a rock ringed fire pit when we were there), and the path heads down over the hill to the right.  Make sure you look at the huge boulders on your left as you descend down the hill!

Bent Run

Located just beyond the Kinzua Dam, Bent Run Falls is SO close to the road, it could easily be overlooked!  Although you can see part of the falls from the parking lot, make sure you walk up the path a bit.  The rock formations are AMAZING, and the Falls meander along a relatively easy path.

Directions from Forest Ridge:

Turn left out of campground driveway.  Drive 2.5 miles on Loleta Road to the center of town.  Turn right onto Route 66.  Drive 5.6 miles and turn left onto Blue Jay Creek Road.  (You will pass the turn off for Logan Falls, as you travel Blue Jay Run.)  Drive 5.4 miles, crossing Tionesta Creek, and turn right onto Route 666.    Tall Oaks gift store is on the left as you travel Route 666 …. well worth a stop! Route 666 will come to a “T”, and you should turn left, onto Route 6.  Route 6 will go through beautiful Sheffield, Pennsylvania, and Clarendon.  Turn right on Route 59 (there is an ice cream stand on the corner …  you should stop and get a snack for the road!)  Route 59 bears to the  left and then travels along the Allegheny River 6.6 miles.  You will see the Kinzua Dam on your right (another great place to stop!), and the parking lot is .4 miles beyond on the right.

Keep your eyes open for bald eagles over the Kinzua Reservoir!

Remember – take a stroll up the path.  You won’t be disappointed!

The rock formations are as beautiful as the cascading waterfalls!

Hector Falls

Hector Falls may just be my favorite in the area, due largely to the massive rock formations.  This is an easy one-mile hike back to an area with boulders bigger than most houses!  The Falls were running hard when we were there in early-April, although I am told that they aren’t quite as full during summer.    We spent a good amount of time at the Falls, and were back to the truck in two hours.  It is well worth putting it on your itinerary, even if you don’t have all day!

Directions from Forest Ridge:   As you can see from the picture, this is definitely “The Road Less Traveled”, and four wheel drive is recommended in winter and early spring.

Turn left out of campground driveway.  Drive 2.1 miles on Loleta Road to the center of town.  Turn right onto Route 66.  Drive 5.6 miles and turn left onto Blue Jay Creek Road.   Go approximately 5.3 miles, crossing Blue Jay Creek Bridge, until you come to the “T” at Route 666.   Turn right onto Route 666 and travel 6.0 miles to the “T”.  Turn left to take Route 666 East, and drive another 2.3 miles, through Sheffield.  Turn right onto Route 6 at the traffic light, (NOTE:  Allegheny Wine Cellars will be on your left in .9 mile) and drive 6 miles into the town of Ludlow.  Turn right onto South Hillside Road .4 miles after crossing into McKean County.  Then turn left at the “T” intersection onto Water Street.  Drive .2 miles on Water Street and take the first road onto Scenic Drive.  At the first intersection, one mile after the railroad tracks, bear right onto Cherry Run Road and drive 2.1 miles to the gated FR 330 on the left.  You can park on the pull off to the gate, but make sure to leave access for emergency vehicles.

Walk the Forest Road down to the gas well, and then there is a trail that heads off to the right.  There is a split on the Forest Road.  The left hand trail has a gate on it.  This is the one you want to take.   Enjoy!

**THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT BLUE JAY BRIDGE WILL BE REPLACED IN SUMMER OF 2018.  CHECK WITH US TO SEE IF THAT HAS HAPPENED, AND IF IT HAS, USE THE FOLLOWING DETOUR.

Turn left out of campground driveway.  Drive 2.1 miles on Loleta Road to the center of town.  Turn right onto Route 66.  Drive 12.8 miles on Route 66, turning left on Route 948.  Take 948 for 8.4 miles, going straight to join 666E.   Take Route 666 East, and drive another 2.3 miles, through Sheffield.
